UK consumers are more likely to have taken out insurance on the contents of their home than life cover, according to new research.
Legal & General's study also found that 22 per cent of people have mobile phone insurance, while only 17 per cent have critical illness cover and 14 per cent have income protection.
Commenting on the findings, the financial company's protection product marketing director, Bonnie Burns, said the UK's priorities for cover "were misguided".
She explained: "We all know that it is difficult to face up to our own mortality, but when insuring possessions is prioritised above insuring lives, then something has to be done.
"Protection insurance is widely-available, value-for-money and easy to arrange, so there's no reason not to consider it."
Legal & General offers a range of financial service to customers, including term assurance, a range of insurance products, retirement planning advice and mortgage protection.
